Jebel Shams Summit

Jebal Shams “Mountain of Sun” is the highest mountain in the region, located in North of Al Hamra town. Hike to the summit and enjoy 2 nights camping under the stars in the stunning Al Hajar mountain range. Summiting a mountain such as Jebal Shams is challenging but very rewarding. Join a group of likeminded people for this unforgetable outdoor experience!

In the summer, temperature is around 25°C (68°F) making it the perfect place to escape the heat of Muscat. In the winter it can drop to 0°C, prepare for the cold weather and ensure you have warm clothes and the appropriate sleeping bag.

Packing list
The Essentials: Ankle support hiking boots, thick woolen socks, 50L hiking rucksack, day rucksack, microfibre towel, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, headlights (with spare batteries), hiking gear and reusable insulated water bottle (2l).

Nice to Have: Hat, sunglasses, lip balm and sunscreen, bug spray/ repellent, camera / gopro with chargers, extra batteries, toiletries, fresh clothes, sandals / flipflops for the camp and waterproof mobile phone case.


Inclusions: 2 nights camping with equipment (Tent, all camp cutlery, plates, bowls and cups), 2 x dinner, 2 x packed lunch or lunch in local restaurant, 2 x breakfast, transport, guide, all entry fees, all safety equipment.

Itinerary
Day 1
1 pm - Arrive at Husaak Center Muscat
1:30 pm - Trip Briefing
2 pm - Set on a 3.5 hour drive to Jebel Shams
5:30 pm - Arrive at Base Camp 1.

Husaak will offer you the choice of a complimentary tent or outdoor cot bed for those who wish to sleep under the stars.

7:30 pm - After setting up camp the group will enjoy a delicious dinner cooked on the fire.


Day 2
5 am – Wake up to prepare a warm breakfast

6 am – Pack up camp and get ready to drive to the start point

7 am – Start Hike. You will hike the first 5 km with your full gear. The average time is 4 hours.

11 am – Once at Base Camp 2 you will leave your gear and continue another 5km taking only a day bag with water and food.

1 pm / 3 pm – Reach the summit. You will have between 1 hour to 5 minutes to spend at the summit dependent on your speed. The return journey from the summit to Base Camp 2 is 5km, the goal is to reach Base Camp 2 before the sunsets

6 pm - Base Camp 2 is a very basic wild camping spot on the mountain. You will need your sleeping bag and a sleeping matt for this. Tents are available but you will be required to carry your own gear so please make sure the weight is manageable. Once you arrive the team will cut wood and start a fire.
7 pm - Dinner is Husaak’s famous steaks! Sunset & Grill Dinner

Day 3
6 am – Wake and eat pre-made sandwiches for breakfast

7 am – Pack up camp and get ready to hike 5km to start point with all of your gear

9 am / 10 am – Depending on the groups speed you will reach the car in 2 - 3 hours and depart for Muscat.

11.30 am – Refreshment stop

2 pm – Arrive at Husaak Centre Muscat
